Plockton is a perfect base for walking trips to Skye, Kintail, Cluanie and Torridon. Less experienced walkers may be interested in purchasing Ian’s walking guide, an introduction to the hills of this area which is published and sold for Macmillan Cancer Support; please ask at the bar.
If you fancy something a little less strenuous there are numerous gentle walks with some stunning views around the village itself and the immediate area. There are several public gardens to be visited such as the Balmacara Woodland Gardens, Armadale Castle Gardens and Attadale Gardens.
We are only a ten minute drive from the Skye Bridge which leads to many different sights and attractions such as the Bright Water Visitor Centre, Misty Isle Boat Trips, Golf, Skye Riding Centre, Dunvegan Castle, and the Talisker Distillery. There’s even the Skye Serpentarium and Reptile World in Broadford.
In Plockton itself, you can’t visit without experiencing one of Calum’s Seal Trips. He runs 4 a day, all leaving from the village and he’s so certain you’ll see seals he’ll give you the trip free if you don’t! You can also hire out boats, canoes or book private sailing lessons from Plockton Boat Hire.
Five minutes drive away is the Craig Highland Farm which is great for the children who can meet many of the animals, such as Dandy and Beano the donkeys. Eilean Donan Castle is only a 15 minute drive away and is open to the public until 5.30pm every day from April to October.
